The Temple of Shadows

Armed only with a pen and two dice, you will embark on this epic Fantasy Gamebook!

Near the mountain village of Brinthal, belligerent wolves run wild and keep attacking people and animals. You can hardly go into the forest anymore without fearing for your life. Apparently, a dark power has taken possession of the wolves and turned them into direwolves. Is there a curse on them?

You take on the role of a young ranger and try to help your home village. After an oxcart was attacked by direwolves, the village elder asks you whether you are willing to get to the bottom of the threat. Is the source of all evil hidden in a forgotten temple destroyed during the Troll Wars? In the first half of this adventure you'll have to explore the temple ruin on the surface (sandbox), in the second half you'll go underground (dungeon).

The Temple of Shadows is a solo fantasy gamebook within the tradition of gamebooks like Lone Wolf, Fighting Fantasy and Fabled Lands. I have kept the rules very simple. All you really need for the game is a pencil and two six-sided dice (2d6). When you have to take a test, whether in combat or in some other situation like climbing or swimming, you roll the dice. Then you add a value from the character sheet (attribute and/or skill). The final result indicates whether you passed the test or not.

I believe that both newbies and experienced roleplayers will enjoy The Temple of Shadows. I would especially recommend the adventure to children of 12 years and older.

After the gamebook Shadow over Brinthal, I am now offering this sequel, The Temple of Shadows. Both volumes can be played independently. However, there is a recurrent theme connecting them. If you like, you can take your character from the first volume into the second adventure and continue playing there.
