Shadow over Brinthal

Armed only with a pen and two dice, you will embark on this epic Fantasy Gamebook! 

In this gamebook you play a young ranger who lives in a village called Brinthal, where strange things are happening. Something seems to be lurking in the nearby woods. Two teenagers are going missing.

Shadow over Brinthal is a solo fantasy gamebook within the tradition of gamebooks like Lone Wolf, Fighting Fantasy and Fabled Lands, which I've always loved. This interactive book uses modern game mechanics to create the most varied and enjoyable game experience possible. The rules of the game are intentionally kept simple so you can start playing quickly.

Within the story there will be riddles to solve and fights to survive and you will meet mythical creatures and non-player characters. With the color map on the back of the book, you can explore Brinthal and find important information and items.

I have kept the rules very simple. All you really need for the game is a pencil and two six-sided dice (2d6). When you have to take a test, whether in combat or in some other situation like climbing or swimming, you roll the dice. Then you add a value from the character sheet (attribute and/or skill). The final result indicates whether you passed the test or not.

I believe that both newbies and experienced roleplayers will enjoy Shadow over Brinthal. I would especially recommend the adventure to children of 12 years and older.

Shadow over Brinthal is the prequel of the gamebook The Temple of Shadows. Both volumes can be played independently. However, there is a recurrent theme connecting them. If you like, you can take your character from the first volume into the second adventure and continue playing there.
